Clovis school campuses to shut down Friday

Clovis school system campuses will be shut down effective Friday.

According to a news release from the Clovis Municipal Schools (CMS) administrative offices, CMS will shift to remote learning beginning Friday due to a strain on local healthcare resources stemming from an increase in communicable illnesses. It is anticipated at this time that regular, in-person instruction will resume Monday.

The release reports in recent days there’s been a marked increase in cases of flu, COVID and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) that has placed an inordinate strain on local healthcare resources, including hospital availability and access to care.

The school district is experiencing high absentee rates among staff and students, exacerbated by reduced substitute availability.

The report goes on to say in the interest of reducing the spread of illnesses and maximizing available instruction resources, our district has decided to move to remote instruction for students, and remote work for staff beginning Friday.

While our facilities are vacant, deep cleaning will be conducted in an effort to reduce the spread of germs.

The news release also reports during the remote learning period, some events, particularly those involving large audiences, may be rescheduled. Families and the community are encouraged to check with their individual schools regarding specific changes.
