ENMU program receives scholarship endowment

PORTALES – Eastern New Mexico University’s Electronics Engineering Technology (EET)-renewable energy program is the beneficiary of an endowment established by EDF Renewables North America, an independent power producer and service provider.

Representatives from EDF Renewables presented a $25,000 check to ENMU chancellor Patrice Caldwell Oct. 14. The new endowment will provide scholarships for ENMU students majoring in the EET program with an emphasis in renewable energy.

According to a news release from ENMU marketing and communications assistant vice-president John Houser the initial investment from EDF Renewables represents a commitment to the long-term goal of building on the university’s success with a new emphasis in renewable energy by offering scholarships to support the industry’s workforce needs in the state and region.

EDF project development manager Kenton Martin said, “Partnering with ENMU allows us to give back to the community and support the state’s economic growth.”

Martin said ENMU was the only four-year school in New Mexico with a four-year EET degree program emphasizing renewable energies. Martin said that makes Eastern a good fit with EDF Renewables’ business and goals within the region.
