Regional 4H and FFAers show in the State Fair Junior Livestock Show

Members of regional 4H and FFA clubs from around eastern New Mexico had positions in the Junior Livestock Show at the New Mexico State Fair, September 10 through 20.

Curry County 4H and FFAers were represented as a review of the results from the New Mexico State Fair website showed Kody White of Texico with the reserve champion Hereford steer.

Junior Market lambs making the sale were Kaya New of Texico - Dorset class.

In the Fine Wool cross -Levi Dunlap of Clovis.

For hair sheep Taylee Sours of Clovis.

In mutton cross - Micky New of Texico.

For Junior Market Swine: Tucker Seaton of Clovis Duroc swine.

Jared Reno of Texico along with Branson Willoughby and Kayleigh Denton, both of Clovis also were noted in the Junior Livestock Sale.

Roosevelt County extension agent Patrick Kircher wrote up the results from Roosevelt County 4H and FFAers in the state fair.

Cache Skelley of Causey had the grand champion market goat, reserve champion wether doe, third overall wether doe and fourth overall wether doe.

Remington Burrow reserve champion light/middle division market goat.

Kyleigh Stephenson og Portales had the champion Chianina steer and third overall market steer.

McKennon Stephenson of Portales had the champion Angus steer, Savannah Bricker of Portales had the champion Simmental steer and Kolten Dewbre of Rogers had the reserve champion Maine Anjou heifer and fourth overall junior breeding heifer. Dewbre also had the reserve champion junior breeding Angus heifer.

Kinley Dewbre of Rogers had the champion junior breeding Angus heifer and Lexi Thomas of Portales had the champion and reserve champion Charolais junior breeding heifer, reserve champion shorthorn junior breeding heifer and supreme champion juior breeding heifer, the champion Charolais heifer.

Roosevelt countians were noted for their showmanship: Nealeigh Burrow, Carson Kircher, Savannah Bricker, Kinley Dewbre and Kolton Dewbre won showmanship awards.

Members of Fort Sumner FFA and De Baca 4-H participated in the New Mexico State Fair (NMSF), bringing home a number of awards and seven positions in the NMSF Junior Livestock Sale.Jayton Morris, whose champion Blackface lamb was named grand champion. Bred by Williams Family Club Lambs, the wether had also been the grand champion at the De Baca County Fair in August.

Morris’ lamb sold for $7,000 at last Friday’s Junior Livestock Sale and was bought by a state political candidate.

Kaden May also did well at the NMSF, claiming the title of reserve grand champion in the Junior Market Swine Show. The barrow, bred by Chance Waldrip of Cornerstone Ventures, was also named champion Hampshire.

May’s lamb was purchased for $3,500 at the Junior Livestock Sale. He also showed the reserve champion cross swine.
