Bomb threat forces evacuation in Portales

Portales police evacuated a section of downtown Friday afternoon in response to a bomb threat.

The incident happened around 2 p.m. Friday as officers formed a perimeter around the threatened area in the vicinity of South Avenue C and West Third Street.

Officers went to homes and businesses to advise people to evacuate according to a press release from the Portales Police Department.

Police located a suspect in the incident and advised people it was okay to return to homes and businesses around 4 p.m.
