Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
Roosevelt County Commissioner Rodney Savage said at Thursday’s county commission meeting that the city of Portales had accepted the county’s proposal to work toward a regional dispatch center.
The city of Portales has been operating the center that serves both city and county residents for some time and in April asked the county to contribute financially to the cost of the operation.
Commissioner Tina Dixon said that the “only thing” this proposal changes basically is it adds a governing board and she said she liked the idea.
The county proposed a governing board composed of members from the county and city to manage a regional dispatch center.
County Commissioner Dennis Lopez said he will support the proposal.
In other business, County Manager Amber Hamilton gave a detailed presentation of the proposed Fiscal Year 2023 Budget.
The commission voted to adopt the budget, which consists of projected FY 2023 revenues of just over $19.4 million and projected FY 2023 expenses of just over $19.8 million.
In another item on the agenda, the commissioners voted to declare a continuing “exceptional drought and fire danger emergency in Roosevelt County.” The Commissioners declared the emergency within the unincorporated areas of Roosevelt County, with agricultural burning permitted, to remain in effect for 45 days, as stated in the resolution.
