1952: Wintry-like weather had slammed eastern New Mexico, dropping temperatures 37 degrees in about 18 hours.
The Clovis News-Journal reported an overnight low of 42 degrees after a high of 79 about noon a day earlier.
While northern New Mexico received “rain, sleet, hail and snow” from the spring storm, the Clovis-Portales area received only a trace of moisture.
The Lovington area saw hail damage to cotton crops, while lightning was blamed for the deaths of “two registered cows near Lovington,” the newspaper reported.
High temperatures were expected in the 60s through the weekend for eastern New Mexico, with possible showers and thunderstorms.
