La Casa releases summer food service schedule

The 2022 Clovis/Portales Summer Food Service Family Nutrition Bureau will begin May 31 and end on Aug. 5, according to a news release from La Casa Family Health Center, the sponsor.

The program is administered by the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department, Family Nutrition Bureau, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The summer food program is returning to pre-pandemic rules, which means no grab-and-go meals and no more providing breakfast and lunch together, according to the news release. participants at meal sites must eat their meal at the site.

The program is designed to fill nutritional gaps for children ages 1 to 18 from May 31 to Aug. 5 in Clovis and Portales, who normally receive free meals provided by their schools, according to the news release

“Nutritious meals paired with physical activity, whether it is free play or organized recreation, creates a great environment for the kids at each food site,” said David Briseño, La Casa Family Health Center Director of Outreach and the Summer Food Service Program.

The summer food program times, days and locations include:

CLOVIS

Monday-Friday

• Breakfast 8:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.: Arts Academy at Bella Vista, Clovis High School, Dennis Chavez Park, First United Methodist Church, Highland Park, Hillcrest Park, Homestead Site, La Casita Elementary, Maria’s Montessori School, Patrick Sandoval Park, Potter Park, Salvation Army, Sandia Elementary, St John’s Baptist Church, Westbrook Baptist Church, and Youth Recreation Building.

• 8 a.m. - 9 a.m.: Jaslyn’s Daycare

• Lunch 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.: Arts Academy at Bella Vista, Clovis High School, Dennis Chavez Park, Doc Stewart Pavilion, First United Methodist Church, Green Acres Park, Highland Park, Hillcrest Park, Homestead Site, La Casita Elementary, Lions Park, Patrick Sandoval Park, Potter Park, Rierson Park, Salvation Army, Sandia Elementary, St John’s Baptist Church, Sunrise Trailer Park, Sunset Park, Westbrook Baptist Church, and Youth Recreation Building

• 11 a.m. to noon: Jaslyn’s Daycare

• 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: Maria’s Montessori

• Noon to 1 p.m.: Melrose Schools Playground

Meals will also be served at various churches, youth sports camps, and other special events throughout the summer.

The Clovis main kitchen will be located at Clovis High School.

PORTALES

Monday-Friday

• Breakfast: 8:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.: Buena Vida Park, City Park, Lindsey Park, Morrison Park, Portales High School, and Rotary Park.

• Breakfast: 7:30 a.m.-8:30 a.m.: James Elementary School

• Lunch noon – 1 p.m.: Alta Terra, Buena Vida Park, City Park, Lindsey Park, Morrison Park and Rotary Park.

• Lunch: 11 a.m. – noon: James Elementary School

• Lunch 11:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m.: Portales High School

Meals will also be served at various churches, youth sports camps, and other special events throughout the summer.

The Portales main kitchen will be located at Valencia Elementary School.
