Man charged with first-degree murder

CLOVIS — A grand jury has charged Victor Quintanilla, 30, with first-degree murder in the death of Ivan Luevano on Oct. 10 during an apparent armed robbery of Luevano.

In an indictment handed down on Friday, the grand jury charged Quintanilla with murder, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and armed robbery.

The grand jury alleged that Quintanilla, with another individual, also took two backpacks and drugs from from Luevano.

Acording to a Clovis police responded to a 911 call on El Camino Street, Clovis at around 10 a.m. on Oct. 10, according to court documents. Officer Quentin Bryant said he was told Luevano had been found in a room of a house in that block with gunshot wounds to the chest, and that two individuals had been seen leaving the house a few minutes before.

Bryant said he went to the Plains Regional Medical Center and learned that Luevano had died from his injuries.

Subsequent investigation led to identifying Quintanillla

Another man wanted for murder in the death of Luevano, David Valdez, has been apprehended in Oklahoma City.

It was not known on Monday whether Valdez has been extradited to New Mexico to face charges.
