Area schools delay Thursday start times

Inclement weather forecasts have led to area schools announcing they will delay start times by two hours on Thursday.

Portales Municipal Schools, Eastern New Mexico University and Clovis Community College will all plan to open two hours later than normal, according to school news releases.

Clovis Municipal Schools officials announced earlier they plan to cancel in-school classes on Thursday, though students will work from home.

Snow began falling throughout the region late Wednesday morning and continued throughout the day. Forecasts call for up to 3 inches with wind gusts expected at 25-30 mph. Forecasters also have warned of frigid temperatures, with lows near zero Wednesday night and Thursday night.
