Portales man dies in Wednesday crash

A Portales man died Wednesday morning when his pickup collided with a jackknifed truck on State Road 206 near Milnesand.

A news release from New Mexico State Police stated road and weather conditions appeared to be contributing factors in the accident that killed Pablo Rodriguez, 39.

Most of the region received 2-3 inches of snow Wednesday morning. Roads around Milnesand were icy under a dusting of snow.

According to the State Police release:

The initial investigation indicates a 2011 Freightliner Commercial Motor Vehicle, driven by a 37-year-old male of Amarillo, was traveling north on State Road 206 in inclement weather. The CMV Jackknifed and crossed over the center line into the southbound lane of traffic where it struck a southbound 2020 Ford F-150 pickup truck. The driver of the Ford, Rodriguez, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of Medical Investigator. The driver of the CMV sustained unknown injuries and was transported by emergency medical personnel to an area hospital.

The accident happened about 9:30 a.m.
