ELIDA — Grady and Dora advanced to a championship semifinal matchup on Friday night with victories in Thursday’s quarterfinal round of the Tiger Invitational, hosted by Elida.

The Lady Bronchos opened the event with a 59-17 victory over Floyd, while Dora prevailed in the late girls’ tilt over Mesilla Valley 53-24.

Grady (4-1) ran away to a 17-4 first-quarter lead against the young, inexperienced Lady Broncos. Sophomores Taylor Foote and December Garza put in 16 points each and sophomore Shayla White added 12 for the Lady Bronchos, who don’t have a player above the sophomore class on their roster.

Meantime, Floyd (0-4) was led by eight points from sophomore Sherlyn Borrego.

Dora (5-1) made short work of the Lady Sonblazers (1-3), bolting to a 29-2 halftime lead before letting the foot off the gas. Three players scored in double figures for the Lady Coyotes — sophomore Faith Jasso with 22 points, junior Jenna Ramirez with 12 and senior Anisten Tapia with 10.

For Mesilla Valley (1-3), freshman Nevaeh Benjamin tallied nine points while senior Chloe Clark put in eight.

Farwell Invitational — Host Farwell continued its winning ways with a 48-29 victory over Muleshoe.

No one scored in double figures for the Lady Blue (10-1), but four players — juniors Carly Gilbreath and Charlie May Trimble and freshmen Bella Jaime and Landri Richey — all finished with eight points with nine players contributing to the scoring column all told. Jaime and Richey each connected on a pair of 3-pointers.

For the Lady Mules, who defeated Hale Center 43-35 in the first game of the day, junior Kylie Hernandez posted eight points.

Meantime, Littlefield recorded a 59-22 victory over Texico, sprinting to a 16-2 lead at the quarter.

Junior Madison McNeese finished with a game-high 18 points for the Lady Wildcats (4-4), including 12 in the second stanza, while junior Catelyn Breshears paced the Lady Wolverines (1-2) with 12.
