Child dies in Tuesday car crash

An 11-year-old Clovis girl died Tuesday in a single-vehicle crash between Grady and San Jon.

Police did not identify the victim.

According to a news release from state police:

• About 12:40 p.m. on Tuesday, police were called to the scene of a crash involving a 2017 Hyundai four-door passenger car on New Mexico State Road 469.

• The car was driven by an 18-year-old Clovis woman and was traveling north on State Road 469. “For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle left the roadway and slid sideways into a power pole,” the release stated. “An 11-year-old female … who was a passenger in the vehicle suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator.”

• The unnamed driver was airlifted from the scene to a Texas hospital. Her condition was unknown, the release stated, and the NMSP did not provide an additional release.
