One dead in Sunday morning crash

CLOVIS — A Sunday morning car crash took the life of one man and left a woman seriously injured, according to a news release from Clovis police.

Clifford Baca, 37, died after the Lincoln Town Car he was driving crashed into a semi-tractor trailer at First and Prince streets, police said.

A 37-year-old woman in the car with Baca was taken to a Lubbock hospital with significant head trauma. She was in intensive care, the release said.

Police did not release the hometowns of the crash victims.

The crash was reported at 7:39 a.m. Sunday.

“On arrival, Officers encountered a semi-tractor trailer and a 1997 Lincoln Town Car in the roadway. The Lincoln Town Car had driven under the trailer being towed by the semi-tractor with an amount of speed causing the top of the car to be sheared off of the vehicle. The driver and passenger of the Lincoln Town Car had sustained severe head injuries,” police said in the release.

The Clovis Police Department Major Crash Team is investigating the incident.

No information about the truck driver was released.
