ENMU homecoming returns with play, golf tournament

PORTALES — Eastern New Mexico University is set to return to a tradition that, like many other traditions across the nation, got set aside last year by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Coming Back to Life” was chosen as the them for the college’s 87th homecoming, which includes a week of activities all leading up to the 6 p.m. Saturday non-conference football game against Lincoln University.

The homecoming is the first to be held in person in two years. The college conducted 2020 homecoming activities virtually, along with the rest of the fall semester.

Activities will begin 6 p.m. Monday, with student groups competing in the Songfest at the Campus Union Ballroom.

The ENMU Theatre Department will present four shows of “Blithe Spirit,” with 7 p.m. shows Thursday through Saturday and a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee.

Friday will include a homecoming golf tournament at Portales Country Club, followed by an alumnus mix and mingle event at the Campus Union Ballroom. The night will close with a 7 p.m. bonfire and pep rally at Greyhound Arena.

Saturday will bring the 8 a.m. ENMU Foundation Awards Breakfast at the Campus Union Building.

The homecoming parade will travel through Portales, beginning at 11 a.m., and the celebration will move to Greyhound Stadium for a 3 p.m. alumni tailgate party before the evening kickoff.

Various virtual events are also scheduled, beginning with a 9 a.m. Monday coffee with Chancellor Patrice Caldwell at facebook.com/goenmu and continuing with daily events at facebook.com/alumniENMU that include virtual campus tours and class slideshows.
