ENMU won't charge for soccer, volleyball

PORTALES — Eastern New Mexico University announced it will not charge admission for its women’s soccer or volleyball home games this season.

The university announced the policy, which will include nine soccer matches at Greyhound Stadium and nine volleyball matches at Greyhound Arena.

Neither club participated in the 2020-21 season due to COVID-19 pandemic concerns.

"We are happy to have free admission to our games this fall," women's soccer coach Abbey Barnum said in a school release. "I'm sure members of ENMU and local communities are just as excited to have sports back as we are, so we hope to see a lot of people come out and watch.”

The soccer team will open up the season with a noon Thursday contest against Colorado Christian. Other home games are Sept. 5, 13 and 22; Oct. 2, 13, 23 and 30; and Nov. 3.

"We are excited to offer free admission to our fans this season," volleyball coach Sia Poyer said, "It's an opportunity to get more fans to come out and watch some good volleyball. The Lone Star Conference is a tough volleyball conference and we need the support of our fans to maintain our home court advantage."

The volleyball team will not play a home game until 6 p.m. Sept. 21 Sept. 21 against New Mexico Highlands. Other home dates include Sept. 24 and 25; Oct. 15, 16, 29, and 30; and Nov. 12 and 13.
