Man tells police brother shot him

CLOVIS — Police on Thursday arrested a man accused of shooting his brother earlier in the morning.

According to a news release from Clovis police and court records:

• Officials at 9:51 a.m. Thursday received an emergency call from "a subject who advised he had been shot by his brother. Officers and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene, where they interacted with a 53-year-old male who had sustained multiple gunshots to his body."

Police did not name the shooting victim, but court records identify him as Henry Martinez.

• Martinez, who said he was shot at 809 Gidding St., was transported to Plains Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. He was later transported to a hospital in Lubbock. His condition was not released.

Records show Martinez identified his assailant as his brother, Narcizo Soto, 45.

• Less than 10 minutes after receiving the initial call, police located Soto in the area of Sixth and Sheldon Streets, where he was taken into custody. Soto did not have a gun when he was apprehended, and police continued to search the area in an attempt to locate the gun.

Soto is charged with aggravated battery (use of a deadly weapon), tampering with evidence, and possession of a firearm or destructive device by a felon. He was in the Curry County Adult Detention Center on Thursday afternoon.

An arrest warrant affidavit said before the shooting, Soto and Martinez had been arguing about other family members who were involved in an altercation in Texas.

An inquiry to the Clovis Police Department regarding the gun and the family argument was not returned on Friday.
