Letter to the editor - June 13

Majority rule great if you’re in majority

I found the entire June 6 editorial page interesting.

The editorial cartoon was most stimulating for the simple reason that it paints a legitimate movement in an extremely negative light. The most distasteful point is the hammer and sickle, a quick review of history will inform just how much death and destruction it represents.

The man credited with its authorship was no less Joseph Stalin of Russia. Further, what does ANTIFA have to do with BLM? Any attempt to marry these two ideas is misleading and reckless.

As to MAGA: as an ideal it had great merit, however it has become a dividing point in our nation on multiple fronts, not just political.

As to Rube Render's statement: “Diversity makes us diverse. No more no less.” My good friend's statement misses the point, by example: a room full of every known ethnic group with similar expertness and proficiency does not make us all equal in the offering of opinion and contribution.

When the ideal of one man, one vote is lived up to as free and open equal representation of all, we will be truly diverse.

Majority rule is great if you are in the majority. BLM is attempting to address a system that does not represent equal value of human life; at this moment in our history, it happens to be our Black brothers and sisters who are raising their voices.

Our system of government not only welcomes and understands civil disobedience, it reacts to it.

I will admit this may seem simpatico: Every group we can think of in our society has had and continues to have issues with equal value.
