Curry inmate attempted suicide on Sunday

CLOVIS — An inmate at the Curry County Adult Detention Center attempted suicide Sunday, and was treated at Plains Regional Medical Center.

Interim jail administrator Joseph Alaniz did not identify the inmate, other than to note he had a slew of charges that may or may not have been a motive for the suicide attempt.

First responders were called to the detention center at 2:38 p.m. Sunday after discovering the inmate alone in his cell with a standard issue blanket tied around his neck.

The inmate Alaniz said, was back at the facility Sunday evening, and was on suicide watch Monday. Alaniz wasn’t sure when the suicide watch requirements would end.

“There are so many factors,” Alaniz said. “It could be a day, it could be a couple of days.”
