CCS players notch awards in District 6-1A

CLOVIS — Four members of both the Clovis Christian boys and girls basketball teams earned All-District 6-1A honors for the recently completed season.

For the CCS girls, sisters Lola and Sofia DeGroot were named all-district, while seniors Makayla Robinson and Abby Lusk earned honorable mention status. The Lady Eagles posted a 5-6 record for the season, including 3-6 in district play.

Meantime, the boys placed two on the first team in brothers Dawson and Carter Teune, and two on the honorable mention list in senior Tyler Lingnau and sophomore Noah Gershon. The Eagles were 7-4 for the season and went 5-4 in district contests.

ENMU women’s tracksters honored — Eastern New Mexico University junior Malethabo Seema led three team members earning All-Lone Star Conference honors this season, announced on Wednesday by the LSC office in Richardson, Texas.

Seema earned a spot on the first team after winning the women’s 800 in 2 minutes, 19.02 seconds over the weekend in the LSC championships in Canyon Texas.

Two other ENMU women, senior Mercy Rotich and Portales sophomore Jessica Campbell, were chosen to the second team. Rotich placed fourth in the 5,000 and 10,000 runs while Campbell finished third in the heptathlon and fifth in javelin competition.

Also, Greyhounds senior Caroline Bachman was chosen as the school’s lone representative on men’s and women’s Lone Star Conference all-academic teams.

Bachman, from Grants, is a biology major at ENMU and has competed in middle distance and relay events for the Greyhounds. She was chosen to the LSC commissioner’s honor role in 2018 and has been an all-academic choice for each of the past three years.

To be eligible for LSC academic honors, athletes much carry a grade point average of at least 3.30 and have reached sophomore status both academically and in athletics.
