Struggles continue for ENMU

PORTALES - The struggles continued on Monday for Eastern New Mexico University.

The Greyhounds were run-ruled twice by Lubbock Christian at Greyhound Softball Field, losing the opener 10-0 and the second game 14-3, both in fivei nnings.

The Lady Chaps (13-8, 3-5 LSC) scored in all five innings of the lidlifter, then used a pair of big frames to quickly put the nightcap away in registering their first true road wins of the season (2-4).

LCU scored six times in the second inning of Game 2, highlighted by a three-run triple from second baseman Skyler Harrison. Meantime, Angela Donaldson's third home run of the season led off the Lady Chaps' third, and they tacked on seven more in the fourth, capped by a two-run single from designated hitter Alivia Villarreal and a two-run double by center fielder Savannah Wysocki.

The Hounds (0-8, 0-8 LSC) broke through for their three tallies in the bottom of the third. with one run scoring on an error and the others coming on back-to-back RBI singles from shortstop Jokaira Parades and left fielder Bella Mendoza.

LCU outhit the Hounds 14-4. Junior right-hander Dakota Stotyn (4-2) allowed three runs (one earned) over three innings to get the win.

LCU 10, ENMU 0 (Game 1) - The Lady Chaps wasted little time against ENMU freshman Brook Leger (0-4), posting a three-run first keyed by shortstop Brooke Makemson's sixth home run of the season, a two-run shot.

Villarreal and left fielder Kamryn Gibbs went back-to-back to start the third for the Lady Chaps.

Junior right-hander Taylor Franco (8-3), who entered the contest with a 0.63 earned run average over 66 1/3 innings, tossed a five-inning shutout. She permitted three singles while walking one and striking out six.

ENMU travels to Texas A&M-Kingsville for a 3 p.m. (MDT) twin bill on Friday, then plays twice on Sunday at Texas A&M International.
