Standoff ends with arrests

CLOVIS -- An early morning report of “door knockers” led to two arrests following a standoff with Clovis police Thursday.

Witnesses said a man knocked on his neighbor’s door in the 900 block of Mora Street sometime after 4 a.m. That prompted the initial call to police. On arrival, police located a 25-year-old man with head injuries.

The injured man told police he’d been beaten with what he believed to be a pistol. The victim identified Manuel Lopez as his attacker.

Officers went to the home where Lopez allegedly attacked the man, but attempts to contact Lopez were not successful, police said.

“A search warrant was prepared for the residence and the Clovis Police Department SWAT Team was called out to assist with the report of firearms being involved with this incident,” police stated in a news release.

“Manuel Lopez made contact with the Police Department shortly after the arrival of the SWAT Team and peacefully exited the residence.”

Police said Lopez was found to have a cut on his right hand. A woman inside the residence, Antoinette Zamora, 33, had injuries to her head.

Zamora was treated at Clovis’ hospital, then arrested on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court.

After a search warrant was served on the residence, Lopez was arrested and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, illegal possession of a firearm by a felon, tampering with evidence and possession of a stolen firearm.

Witnesses said a man and a woman were taken into police custody about 8 a.m. Thursday.
