Businesses making most of curbside for Black Friday

CLOVIS — Though businesses deemed nonessential by the state's health and safety orders are only allowed to operate under curbside pick-up, they are making the most of it for the upcoming Black Friday and Small Business Saturday weekend.

Many local businesses are utilizing social media to keep their businesses going during the shutdown. Some have opened online Etsy shops to continue selling their products, others have regularly scheduled livestreams where they show what is available in their shop to buy and pickup curbside.

The Clovis Chamber of Commerce is working on sharing the efforts of small businesses via Facebook. Like the Clovis Delivers Facebook page which is operated by the Chamber to advertise local restaurants, chamber staff is considering beginning a Shop Local page where retail businesses can advertise their online sales to the community.

Many of the local small businesses offering online sales are already being shared by the Chamber on their Facebook page.

During the Chamber's retail committee meeting on Tuesday Lisa Pellegrino-Spear, Executive Director of Clovis MainStreet, said that she has gone to some retail businesses after-hours to do an S.O.S (Save Our Stores) meeting where she teaches owners how to utilize Facebook Live.

She is planning to put together 12 businesses in the month of December to do a “12 Days of Christmas” event where shops go live on different days to showcase and sale their products.

Businesses can reach out to her through the Clovis MainStreet Facebook page if they are interested in learning how to utilize their online presence.
