Clovis schools announces three COVID positive tests

CLOVIS — Clovis Municipal Schools announced three confirmed cases of COVID-19 among staff or students at two of its campuses on Wednesday, bringing the total to seven announced at CMS sites since Sunday.

The district announced one positive at Highland Elementary in the afternoon, after announcing two positive tests from Sandia Elementary in the morning. District releases do not distinguish between students or staff members, and the district will not comment further due to privacy laws. The positive at Highland is the second announced this week from the school.

In each case, areas of the school where the positive individuals spent time will be cleaned and disinfected and anybody determined to be a close contact will be notified.

The district asks families to please continue to send children to school as scheduled, unless they have been instructed to quarantine following a close contact, are experiencing COVID symptoms or have tested positive themselves. Policies are explained further at http://www.clovis-schools.org/COVID-19.html.

Earlier this week, the district announced positives at Clovis High School, the Arts Academy at Bella Vista and Lockwood and Highland elementary schools.

The New Mexico Public Education Department on Wednesday confirmed four new COVID-19 cases in Curry County and one in Roosevelt County, but the release does not disclose specific districts or campuses. In the Curry County cases, all four cases were students last on campus Sept. 29. The Roosevelt County case was a staff member last on the school site Sept. 30.
