One charged with child solicitation

CLOVIS — The Curry County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Los Lunas man Wednesday on allegations he tried to meet an underage person for sex, according to a news release from Sheriff Wesley Waller.

Felix Wheeler, 46, was booked into the Curry County Detention Center, where he awaits a detention hearing. He faces a felony charge of child solicitation by electronic communication device and a misdemeanor charge of attempted criminal sexual communication with a child.

It was not immediately known if Wheeler had an attorney.

According to the release from Waller:

• On May 29, Wheeler contacted a chat profile monitored by sheriff’s investigators and listed as a 14-year-old in the Clovis area.

• The chat was sexually graphic, with nude photographs sent by Wheeler.

• Wheeler advised he would travel to Clovis to meet the child and engage in sexual activity. After arriving at the agreed-upon location, he was arrested by awaiting deputies.
