Sandia meal service shuttered after COVID-19 concern

Students in area asked to use Highland for remainder of school year

CLOVIS — Citing a potential risk of exposure to COVID-19, Clovis Municipal Schools will discontinue grab-and-go meal service at Sandia Elementary School for the remainder of the school year, according to a release from the district.

The release noted the district was alerted Sunday about the potential exposure of an employee. It was not immediately clear if the employee had tested positive for COVID-19.

The district notes it has observed public health guidelines throughout school closures, prepared meals with staff wearing gloves and masks and distributed the meals through a contact-free system.

Students who were being served meals at Sandia are advised to visit Highland Elementary for future needs.

The district previously discontinued meal service at Gattis Middle School and had those services absorbed by Barry Elementary, but the release noted that change was made due to low participation.
