PORTALES — The Portales City Council moved quickly through its Tuesday meeting, approving routine bills and four other items on a consent agenda in less than 10 minutes.
The meeting began with a message of support from Mayor Ron Jackson, noting the city would eventually get past the COVID-19 pandemic. He was the only member of the council at the Memorial Building, with the city’s eight councilors participating by conference call.
Items agreed to as part of the consent agenda included:
• An application for juvenile adjudication funds from the state. City Clerk Joan Martinez-Terry said the grant dollars, if awarded, could be anywhere between $2,000 and $20,000.
• The Portales Fire Department was given authorization to remove ambulance billing charges more than four years old that it can no longer legally pursue for collection.
• The city’s engineering services contract with Stantec on the Johnson Hill West Tank rehabilitation project was altered to allow an extra six months for completion. Already-budgeted costs are $19,190.40 for construction management and $35,860.80 for time and material.
The next council meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. May 5.
