ENMU finalizes football schedule

PORTALES — Eastern New Mexico University has finalized its football schedule for the upcoming season, with six home games and five away games.

Much of the schedule is simply the 2019 schedule with home sites flipped, primarily its seven Lone Star Conference games and a battle with Tarleton State, which is leaving the LSC and moving up to Division I.

The Green and Silver are coming off an 8-4 season, including a 2019 Heritage Bowl win over Southern Arkansas.

“We are definitely looking to build off of the momentum of our first NCAA DII postseason win in school history,” ENMU coach Kelley Lee said, “We can’t wait to get started and continue the storied tradition of Greyhound football.”

The Greyhounds will host New Mexico Highlands in a Thursday night season opener Sept. 3, followed by a Sept. 12 contest at Adams State.

The Greyhounds start off LSC play Sept. 19 at Texas A&M-Kingsville, and have their home LSC opener the following week against Midwestern State.

An Oct. 3 visit to Tarleton State will be ENMU’s first battle against a Division I opponent since Incarnate Word in 2013.

The conference season will then resume and alternate between home and road for four weeks. The Greyhounds will host Western New Mexico in the Chile Bowl Oct. 10 and visit West Texas A&M in the Wagon Wheel game Oct. 17.

Following a home battle against Texas-Permian Basin Oct. 24 and a Halloween night visit to Angelo State the Greyhounds will end the regular season with back-to-back home games — Nov. 7 against Azusa Pacific and Nov. 14 against Texas A&M-Commerce. The Cougars represent ENMU’s first opponent as part of the LSC’s four-year scheduling agreement with the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
