Roosevelt to consider emergency declaration

PORTALES — The Roosevelt County Commission will consider a measure to declare the county an emergency area as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic when it meets Tuesday morning.

The 9 a.m. meeting is being handled as a teleconference due to state restrictions on mass gatherings.

Anybody interested in listening to the meeting can go to anymeeting.com/AccountManager/RegEv.aspx?PIID=EE55DD84874C3B

and register for the webinar.

Public comments must be submitted by 5 p.m. Monday to County Manager Amber Hamilton ([email protected]).

The emergency resolution would allow the county to be eligible for any state or federal aid associated with the pandemic, and grant Hamilton the latitude to create emergency policies as needed. The Curry County and Clovis city commissions have already passed such measures, and the Portales City Council is considering one Wednesday morning.

The Tuesday county meeting is the only scheduled meeting until May 5, as the April 21 meeting has been canceled.

Other agenda items include:

• A request to purchase two used semi trucks for the county road department.

• Professional services contracts for EMS service and mass notification services.

• A proposal from Lydick Engineers for improvements to drainage and handicapped access at the county fairgrounds.

• Review of the 2018-19 financial audit.

• A resolution to transfer funds from the sheriff’s office reserve into the county’s general fund. Hamilton said the intent is to close out the reserve account, which contains about $13,100.
