Clerks encourage voters to prep for election

Though county clerk’s offices are closed to the public, clerks are still encouraging citizens to prepare for the June 2 primary elections.

The state deadline is May 5 to register to vote or make changes to an existing voter registration.

Residents can check their voter information at http://www.nmvote.org or by calling their local clerk’s office. The Curry County clerk’s office can be reached at 575-763-5591. The Roosevelt County clerk’s office can be reached at 575-356-8562.

Any information submitted after Feb. 4 will not be processed until April 7, pursuant to state law closing voter registration.

Residents must be registered with a major political party to vote in the primaries, as New Mexico has closed primary elections.

Absentee ballot applications will be accepted through May 29, through either the clerk’s offices or nmvote.org.

Absentee voting materials will be mailed out, beginning May 5.
