Portales Woman’s Club

Portales Woman’s Club met March 11 with 21 members and four guests — Rose Robbins, Darla Reed, Debbie Hill and Terry Lancaster.

President Sheryl Borden called the meeting to order following lunch. Gaynelle Thomas led the pledges and the invocation was given by Jacquelyn House. Special guest Isaac Montelleno provide prelude music and members sang “God Bless America.”

Program Co-Chair Wanda Pettus introduced Michael Terry, a longtime educator in the Portales school system. He talked about beekeeping and selected a book to be presented to one of the elementary schools in Portales.

Minutes from the prior meeting were approvedand the treasurer’s report was filed for audit. Thomas also read correspondence.

The club approved an Executive Board Recommendation regarding the revised rental contract of the club building. The club’s scholarship program received several applicants and the winner will be announced at the next meeting.

Sheryl Borden, Quaylene Parkey and Mary Orozco were elected delegates to attend the State Woman’s Club convention in Roswell April 17-18.

Cindy Miller introduced the Hostess Committee: Mary Lou Rowley, Joann Rackler, Yvonne Garcia, Becky Eminger and June Ferguson. The next meeting is pending with state mandates on large gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The program is scheduled to be presented by Teresa Howard.
