One dead after early-morning shooting

CLOVIS — A 22-year-old man died early Saturday after police said he suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

According to a Clovis police news release:

• At 12:36 a.m., officers responded to the 1400 block of Hickory Street in reference to a subject with a gunshot wound to his head.

• On arrival, officers made contact with subjects at the residence and a 22-year old male who had a gunshot wound to his head. The man was transported to Plains Regional Medical Center, where he died.

• The Clovis Police Department Special Operations Unit has been activated to investigate this event.

The release stated no information about the deceased would be released, pending notification of his family.
