March 11, 2020

CLOVIS — A Curry County grand jury on Friday indicted a Clovis man on charges of stealing from a local business and setting it ablaze to cover up thefts.

Daniel Aranda, 53, faces charges of arson, conspiracy to commit arson, larceny, burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary and tampering with evidence, according to the indictment filed Monday in district court.

Aranda has been at the Curry County Adult Detention Center since Feb. 23.

He was originally charged in Curry County Magistrate Court on various charges, but no charges were filed at the time in connection to the fire at the 1700 block of South Prince Street.

Court documents allege Daniel and wife Tamara Aranda stole around $2,500 in jewelry from the building and set the building on fire.

Tamara Aranda is still wanted on a Feb. 21 warrant issued by the magistrate court for non-residential burglary, conspiracy to commit non-residential burglary, larceny and tampering with evidence.

A message left Tuesday morning with the pubilc defender assigned to Aranda was not immediately returned.
