Fallen airman honored with dedication

ROCHESTER, Pa. — Family and friends on Saturday commemorated the life and legacy of a combat controller from Cannon Air Force Base.

U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Dylan Elchin was honored with a bridge dedication at the Veterans of Foreign War Post 128.

The Vanport Bridge traversing the Ohio River was renamed, “USAF Combat Controller Staff Sgt. Dylan Elchin Memorial Bridge.”

Elchin, while deployed to Afghanistan, died Nov. 27, 2018, when his vehicle hit an improvised explosive device.

Members of the 26th Special Tactics Squadron, Cannon Air Force Base, New Mexico, attended the ceremony to honor their fallen teammate.
