Broncos, Tigers take district openers

FLOYD — The Floyd Broncos rode a balanced attack to a 69-48 victory over Lake Arthur in the opening game of the District 4-1A boys basketball tournament on Monday.

The fifth-seeded Broncos (5-18), who advanced to meet No. 4 Gateway Christian on Tuesday night, got 12 points apiece from juniors Trace East and Eric Terry, 11 from senior Cobe Correa and eight from sophomore Ricky Ramirez. Meantime, the Panthers (0-16) were led by junior Adrian Guillen with 27 points.

In other opening district tourney games on Monday:

Logan 86, Clovis Christian boys 47 — At Logan, the Longhorns put in 16 3-point baskets and led wire-to-wire in eliminating the Eagles in District 6-1A.

Logan (14-12), seeded fourth, got 19 points from junior Dante Sanchez, 21 from freshman Matthew Norman and 17 from junior Garrett Bollinger. For the fifth-seeded Eagles (9-17), junior Tyler Lingnau scored 14 points and freshman Carter Teune added 13.

Elida girls 56, Lake Arthur 18 — The fifth-seeded host Lady Tigers (4-22) rode a personal-best 21 points from sophomore Lilly Anthony past the sixth-seeded Lady Panthers (0-16) in 4-1A. Junior Maislyn Ferguson added 11 points for Elida, which was slated to visit No. 4 seed Floyd on Tuesday night.
