Prep roundup: Lady Blue dominate playoff opener

LITTLEFIELD — The Farwell Lady Blue made short work of Lockney on Monday night, rolling to a 32-8 halftime lead en route to a 52-29 victory in a Texas Class 2A Region I bi-district playoff game.

Farwell (23-10) advances to the area round, and will face Gruver (28-2) in a 6:30 p.m. (CST) start on Thursday at Panhandle H.S. The Lady Greyhounds (28-2) thrashed Memphis 89-27 on Monday in a game played at Pampa.

Gruver, ranked No. 3 in Texas Class 2A, has won 11 in a row and outscored its opposition 2,038-897 for the season. The Lady Greyhounds’ only losses were to Class 5A Amarillo Tascosa (73-66) and Class 2A Panhandle (61-57).

Farwell converted seven 3-point baskets against Lockney (18-15), including five in the first half. Senior Ashley Actkinson and junior Presley Agee each scored 13 points and combined for five 3s in the contest.

“We just caught fire at the end of the first quarter and the whole second quarter,” Lady Blue coach Mikel Turner said.

The Lady Longhorns’ top scorer was junior Townlei Hernandez with 10 points.

In area games played on Saturday night:

Dora girls 48, Floyd 46 — Senior Randi Crandall’s basket with seven seconds left lifted the Lady Coyotes to victory and moved them ahead of Floyd for third place in District 4-1A.

Crandall finished with 25 points and senior Makayla Burnett added 14 for Dora (7-13, 4-4 district). Junior Mariah Carrillo had four 3-pointers en route to a personal-best 17 points for the Lady Broncos (6-14, 3-5), while senior Anahi Chavez added three 3s and 13 points.

Dora boys 41, Floyd 25 — The Coyotes held Floyd to 14 points through three quarters in taking control of the matchup. Senior Haiden Padgett led Dora (10-12, 4-4) with 14 points, while junior Alex Urioste had 11 and senior Joe Urioste nine.

For the Broncos (4-17, 3-6), juniors Juan Alba-Beltran and Eric Terry scored eight and five points, respectively.
