RGH has you set for last-minute Valentine's Day plans

February 12, 2020

If you happen to be — as I am — a procrastinator, then it is possible that Valentine’s Day has crept upon you and you’ve not yet made plans.

Have I got a deal for you.

Thanks to other procrastinators in our community, there are still tickets available for Friday’s third annual For the Love of Roosevelt General Hospital dinner and auction that takes place starting at 6 p.m. at the Yam Theatre in Portales.

For $35 — the cost of about a dozen roses — you can snag one of those tickets. If you can find seven other procrastinators looking for a fun evening, you can buy an entire table for $250.

(To be clear, you aren’t actually buying the table … just the eight tickets for seats that would surround it. I don’t want anyone walking away with Yam furniture.)

The folks at Sodexo Catering tell me the menu includes “panko-encrusted chicken breast served with a sautéed garlic cream sauce and sun-dried tomato strips, spring mix salad, fresh green beans, and mashed potatoes.”

For dessert — because this will be Valentine’s Day after all — the tables will be set with heart-shaped cheesecakes in raspberry or chocolate.

But the sweetest part?

Funds raised by this event support the ongoing good work done by the RGH Foundation.

Proceeds from this year’s dinner are already earmarked to be used for a new waiting area for the operating room, according to Jeanette Orrantia, director of marketing, planning, and public relations for RGH.

Friday’s event includes a cash bar, as well as a silent auction and a “chance” auction.

A chance auction involves cups, quarters, and possibly extra visits to the cash bar (my take, not the official explanation). I’ve been promised it is fun.

Procrastinate no more — those tickets won’t wait forever. If you’d like one or two — or even eight — call Orrantia at 575-226-6669.

(Footnote: If you wait too long and miss this chance to celebrate with your sweetheart, you can make it up to him or her the following week with tickets to the Kiwanis Chili Supper from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Feb. 21 in the Fellowship Hall at First United Methodist Church in Portales. You’re welcome.)
