Clovis band honored by state

SANTA FE — The Clovis High marching band was recognized with a proclamation from Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham and the New Mexico Legislature.

The proclamation declared Feb. 3 as “Clovis High School Marching Band Day” to celebrate the achievements of the band, including eight consecutive New Mexico state championships and seven consecutive grand championships at the Zia Marching Festival.

In person to receive the proclamation were Band Director Bill Allred, Clovis Director of Music Education Brandon Boerio, CHS Principal Jay Brady and Clovis Superintendent Renee Russ.

The group also received a state flag that was flown over the capitol building on that day.

New principal selected for Los Ninos

CLOVIS — Corey Lucero has been named principal for Los Ninos Early Intervention Center and New Mexico Pre-K program, according to a release from Clovis Municipal Schools.

Lucero has been with CMS since 2013, when she began as a special education teacher. She has taught first grade and kindergarten, and was the K-5 Plus administrator in the summer of 2018.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Eastern New Mexico University and a master’s degree in education literacy from Wayland Baptist University.

She will begin her new position Feb. 18. She replaces Kerri Hatley, who took a voluntary transfer to a teaching position.

Clothing donations sought by LCARS

CLOVIS — The Clovis Municipal Schools Language, Culture and At-Risk Services department and Family Services are re-opening the district’s Clothing Closet, and are seeking donations.

Particular items sought are clothing racks, bins, hangers and shelving in good condition.
