MELROSE — After shutting down in 2018, the Melrose Clinic will be making a return under the guidance of Clovis Family Healthcare early this year.
The Curry County Commission approved Clovis Family Healthcare as the new healthcare provider for the clinic during a meeting in December and CFH hopes to have the clinic open sometime next month.
The clinic was constructed in 2010 using funding from a community block development grant and has been previously operated by two different healthcare providers, first La Casa and later Roosevelt General Hospital.
RGH’s contract for the clinic ended in December 2018 and the hospital chose not to renew. The new contract with CFH goes from this month to Dec. 31, with options to renew up to three years.
The clinic will offer gynecology services, breast screening, tests for strep, flu and diabetes, as well as other services.
County Manager Lance Pyle said the county has arranged not to charge to rent the facility and the village of Melrose has arranged to waive water, sewer and trash service fees for the clinic.
“The county is excited to partner with (CFH) to provide healthcare to the Melrose area and surrounding community,” Pyle said. “It’s definitely needed and it’s been shut down since last year. We’re glad Melrose was willing to work with the county as far as the water and sewer goes.”
Mandy Shrader of CFH said the clinic will open soon, but couldn’t give an exact date. She said they hope to open the clinic sometime in February, but are still working on some logistics, like arranging for furniture and equipment in the building.
“We’ve had people calling wondering when we’ll be open, but we’re still trying to get furniture,” Shrader said.
