DORA — Senior guard Tyce Delk scored 28 points and Elida pulled away late to beat host Dora 66-52 in the boys championship game of the Coyotes’ J.P. Stone Invitational on Saturday night.
The Tigers (4-0) led 49-44 going into the final period, but outscored the Coyotes 17-8 down the stretch. Sophomore post Rylan Creighton added 17 points for Elida.
Sophomore forward-guard Cache Skelley paced the Coyotes (2-1) with 26 points, while seniors Joe Urioste and Haiden Padgett finished with 10 apiece.
American Heritage Bank Classic, Melrose
Boys: Host Melrose overcame a three-point halftime deficit, outscoring Grady 18-11 in each of the final two stanzas to beat the Bronchos 70-59 and claim the tournament championship.
Junior Tate Sorgen each scored 16 points for the Buffaloes (3-0). Senior Dylan Valentine added 15, while juniors Devon Bailey and Trace Jackson had nine apiece.
Grady (3-2), which gained the finals with a pair of overtime victories, rode a 25-7 second-quarter domination to a 37-34 halftime lead. The Bronchos nailed five of their eight 3-pointers in the period.
Senior Chisum Rush and junior Isaiah Mitchell netted 14 points each for Grady, while sophomore Dustin Bryant added 12 points and junior Chad Becerra 10.
Girls: Melrose made it a tournament sweep as the Lady Buffs cruised to a 59-17 rout over Quemado in the title tilt.
Senior forward Shannon May poured in 24 points for Melrose (3-0), while junior forward Hailey Martin scored 13 and freshman post Paityn Nicholson 10. The Lady Eagles (2-1) got seven points from Karley Harriet.
New Home (Texas) tournament
Boys: Farwell posted a pair of victories on Saturday, beating New Deal 52-45 and Lubbock All Saints 55-51 to finish the event at 4-1.
Junior Jonathan Mora scored 19 points for the Steers (5-4) against New Deal, while the Lions got a game-high 25 points from junior guard Tanner Seely. Farwell led 12-7 at the quarter and maintained a small lead throughout.
Against Lubbock All Saints (2-2), Austin Hester led the Steers with 18 points, while Mora chipped in 14.
Girls: Farwell’s girls completed a four-game weekend sweep in the event, leading 8-0 after one quarter and cruising past Forsan 60-30 on Saturday.
Junior guard Presley Agee led the Lady Blue (7-5) with 19 points, followed by Kerigan Kasel with 10 and Paulina Rodriguez with nine. For the Lady Buffs (7-11), junior guard Riley Evans finished with 13 points.
