ENMU board to look to 2020-21 school year

PORTALES — With the 2019-20 college year about halfway into the books, the Eastern New Mexico University board of regents will make a few decisions that will affect students and staffers in the 2020-21 year.

The board has numerous items on the agenda for its last meeting of 2019, scheduled for 9:30 a.m. at the regents room on the second floor of the Portales campus’ administration building.

The board will take another look at its holiday schedule for the 2020-21 school year, following a request from a group of students at the Nov. 1 meeting to close the campus for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Board members were responsive to the request, but didn’t immediately agree on what holiday it would replace on the calendar.

The board will also consider on-campus housing rates for the 2020-21 school year.

Other items on the Friday agenda include:

• Election of board officers, appointment of subcommittees and alumni and foundation appointments.

• A request for Chancellor Jeff Elwell and wife Edwina Gower to attend a legislative dinner in Santa Fe, with the trip funded by the ENMU Foundation.

• An update on the University House Project.

• Fall graduation list approvals for the Portales and Roswell branches.

• Requests to approve ENMU-Ruidoso programs for constructions trades, fermentation science and wind energy.

• Information about Higher Learning Commission accreditation site visits at the ENMU-Roswell campus.

• An executive session to discuss three personnel matters.
