Portales council appoints member to tax board

PORTALES — The Portales City Council on Tuesday appointed a new member to the Lodgers Tax Advisory Board, filling the empty seat left by the departure of Chrisula Webb of Holiday Inn Express.

LaToya Padilla of Best Western Plus filled the seat after she was recommended to the position and approved by the council.

The purpose of the board is to review and recommend requests for the use of Lodgers Tax funds when the city puts together its fiscal budget for the year.

The board seats five members that serve two-year terms. Padilla joins John Houser, Sheryl McClary, Anai Jimenez and Mark Vigil.

The council also held a public hearing on the annexation of the Partin Subdivision, a tract of land belonging to Roosevelt County. With no comment during the public hearing the annexation was approved.

Fire Chief T.J. Cathey also asked the mayor to authorize the annual EMS Fund grant application with the New Mexico Department of Health Emergency Medical services, which was approved.

Before the meeting concluded, the commissioners discussed other business, including organizing for a strategic planning session with state lawmakers sometime early next year.
