One dead after county house fire

A Curry County woman was discovered dead Tuesday after a house fire was reported north of Clovis.

Leota Porter, 89, the home's owner, was unable to escape the fire and died at the scene, according to a Curry County Sheriff's Department news release.

According to the release:

• At 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Curry County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the home at 2564 Curry Road H.

• A care-taker, Marshall Call, discovered and reported the fire. Call informed first-responders that the house was

occupied by Porter.

The Clovis Fire Department and New Mexico State Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating the cause of the fire.
