CCC to look again at residence renovations

November 17, 2019

CLOVIS — The Clovis Community College Board of Trustees will take a second look at renovations to its presidential residence in a special meeting Wednesday morning.

On Nov. 6, trustees tabled a request for renovations at the residence on 1621 E. 21st St. after balking at a $186,770 price tag that covered painting, concrete patio replacement, pool and pool house demolition and construction of a patio and pavilion.

The board will consider that option, plus a pair of alternative options:

• Revised Option 1 totals $118,500. Work includes painting, concrete patio replacement, removal of the pool house and a concrete pad. The pad could be used for various college events, and a covered structure can be added at a later date.

• Revised Option 2 totals $111,500. Work includes painting, concrete patio replacement, filling in the pool and removing the sliding doors and ceiling panels for the pool house.

The first two options include a 10% contingency, while Revised Option 2 includes a 15% contingency due to contractor concerns the work would compromise the pool house’s structural integrity.

All three options are above the $100,000 threshold that requires board approval, but below the $300,000 that would require capital project approval from the New Mexico Higher Education Department.

The work has a mid-February timeline for approval, as new President Charles Nwankwo plans to arrive with his family Feb. 17.

• An information item on salary designation changes for about 40 CCC employees due to changes in the Fair Labor Standards Act on overtime-exempt positions. The positions will move from exempt status to non-exempt status due to the minimum salary for exempt employees rising from $23,660 annually to $35,568 annually. The changes will be effective Dec. 23.

The meeting is slated to begin at 8 a.m. Wednesday in room 512 at CCC.
