ENMU men, women drop D-I exhibitions

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Eastern New Mexico University men’s basketball team played the first of two preseason exhibition games against Division I foes on Wednesday night, dropping a 107-59 decision to Southeastern Conference member Tennessee.

ENMU, which faces New Mexico in Albuquerque on Wednesday before opening the 2019-20 regular season three nights later against New Mexico Highlands in the LSC/RMAC Conference Challenge at Durango, Colo., led 11-10 at the first media timeout before the Volunteers, a Sweet 16 team last year, took control.

Sophomore guard Devin Pullum hit four early 3-point shots and finished with 18 points for the Greyhounds, while junior guard Isaiah Murphy went 5-for-10 from the floor for 15 points.

Junior forwards Deng Kuany and Marvin Mapaga grabbed six rebounds apiece for ENMU, which was outrebounded for the game 56-39, and Mapaga also had a team-best four assists. Twelve Hounds managed to contribute points in the contest.

Women fall at UNM — Also on Wednesday, the ENMU women’s team dropped its third exhibition of the season in a 99-56 loss to the New Mexico Lobos at The Pit in Albuquerque.

Six-foot-4 senior post Natalie DeLonge finished with team highs of nine points and nine rebounds for the Hounds. Junior post Alivia Lewis had eight points and five rebounds in the loss, while senior post Jasmine Williams added seven points and seven boards.

It took the Lobos 30 seconds to score the game’s first points and they never looked back, building a 9-0 lead before ENMU dented the scoreboard.

The Hounds begin the regular season on Friday in the LSC/RMAC Challenge at Durango, also facing New Mexico Highlands.
