Two train-car accidents in Parmer County

A pair of unrelated train-car accidents occurred Saturday in Parmer County, law enforcement officials said.

About 12:40 p.m. (CDT) Saturday, a man drove around the gates at the Buster Street train crossing in Bovina before his Chrysler 200S was struck by the train. Bovina Police Chief Joe Orozco said the vehicle was totaled and the driver suffered a leg injury.

About an hour later, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a truck-tractor towing a semi-trailer was heading south on Parmer County Road 6 and approaching a railroad crossing adjacent to U.S. 70. The vehicle, driven by a 55-year-old Clovis resident, did not stop for the approaching train and began to cross the railroad intersection. The trailer being hauled was struck by a train as it came through the crossing. No injuries were reported.
