Bella Vista cancels Wednesday classes after playground fire

CLOVIS - A playground fire at the Arts Academy at Bella Vista in Clovis was extinguished soon after it was reported on Tuesday afternoon, school officials said. But because of residual smoke, classes have been canceled for Wednesday.

No injuries were reported. Students were not on the campus when the fire was reported at 4:20 p.m. A school news release said staff at the school was evacuated.

The release said some playground equipment was damaged, however the extent of damage has not yet been assessed.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.

School officials said district personnel are working to properly ventilate the building to correct air quality issues. It is anticipated this can be completed through the day Wednesday and classes will resume Thursday.
