New Starbucks open in Clovis

Avid coffee fiends rejoice. A new Starbucks drive-in java shop has just popped up on the north side of Clovis to help feed your insatiable thirst for the energizing brown liquid.

The new standalone Starbucks location opened Monday on Prince Street, just north of Walmart. Staff visited a few local businesses the previous Friday to hand out free coffee.

The new location has a drive through and interior dining area and plans to be open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., 365 days a year.

This is the first of the Seattle-based company's standalone locations to open in Clovis. That means it will have online ordering, full access to the company's reward points system, access to a larger menu and offer more specialty items than you might find at the other licensed grocery store locations.

"We carry the full menu, so things like the Nitro Cold Brew, that our licensed stores don't have," said Starbucks Manager Heather Zuniga. "And then we have more standard items that the other stores don't get to carry year-round."

Johnny Ramirez, a nurse at Clovis Healthcare, has already taken to the new location.

"The drive through is very convenient," Ramirez said. "Coffee is very important for me. I work 12-hour shifts, which means I end up drinking a lot."

Zuniga said the new location required about six months of construction time, with the exterior of the building going up in six weeks and then another six weeks to finish up the interior before staff could come in and prepare to open.

"On Friday, we wanted to reach out and try to hit as many local businesses as we could. We reached out to the police department, City Hall and the rest of the core part of the city in an attempt to connect with the community," Zuniga said. "Once we get rolling, we want to do more to reach out and be a part of the community."
