School board to cover budget matters

PORTALES — The Portales Municipal Schools Board of Education will largely take care of early fiscal year budget matters and have a first reading for revisions to its policy manual at its Tuesday meeting.

The noon meeting at the Portales schools administration building will also include recognition of recent Portales High graduate Rebekah Christensen. She was one of 24 recipients of New Mexico School Board Association scholarships, distributed throughout the NMSBA’s eight regions. Portales is in Region V, which includes schools in Curry, Roosevelt and De Baca counties.

Other items on the Tuesday agenda include:

• A joint powers agreement with the Portales Police Department for its school resource officer program.

• A notice of public meetings scheduled for the board over the next year.

• A request to approve payments to the National Honor Society.

• A consent agenda with more than two dozen budget adjustment requests.
