Portales to honor retired fire chief

PORTALES — The Portales City Council will honor retired Portales Fire Department Battalion Chief Shannon Lee and “update” a few elected official salaries when it meets Tuesday evening at the Memorial Building.

The meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. at the Memorial Building.

Ordinance 738 will update salaries for the mayor, mayor pro tem and councilors while Ordinance 739 will update the salaries for the magistrate judge.

Proposed salary figures were not available in agendas posted to the city website, and attempts to contact city administration were unsuccessful.

Council salaries have not changed since 1992, with annual salaries of $7,800 for the mayor, $6,600 for the mayor pro tem and $4,800 for city council members.

If approved, payment will be changed immediately for city council members and changed in the next elected term for the municipal judge’s office.

Other agenda items include:

• Appointment of an infrastructure capital improvement plan committee.

• An ordinance approving economic development projects.

• Discussion and possible action on a local labor relations management board.

• Designation of a voting delegate and alternate for the city during the New Mexico Municipal League conference July 17-19 in Albuquerque.
