Pilot facing charges of rape

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A special operations pilot at the Air Force Academy is facing charges of rape, rape of a child and three counts of sexual abuse of a child, according to a release from the academy.

Maj. Travis J. Burns, who previously served at Cannon Air Force Base, will appear in military court Monday for an Article 32 hearing, which functions much like a probably cause hearing in civilian courts.

According to the Colorado Springs Gazette, the alleged crimes against the child happened in 2017 and 2018 in Colorado Springs, with the child involved under the age of 12. The rape charge stems back to an alleged occurrence near Clovis in December 2013. New Mexico court records do not list any criminal charges against Burns outside of traffic infractions.
